A Dozen Black Roses
The girl Jo is so dark
she curses at kids in the park
she wants to be known
yet refuses to be seen
she envelops herself in darkness
and imagines the feel of her lovers caress
the one time she smiled
was when Rae broke through denial
and he sent her a dozen black roses
with a card saying he hated her
and he would never return
and she closes her eyes
and she falls from grace
feeling weary of this place
because it held so many memories
she covered herself in her own made shadows
covered herself from head to toe
and she walked out the door,
leaving no footprints on the floor
she disappeared into the night
never to be seen again by the light
